A little over 24 hours ago I returned home from a ministry trip. Today I have been resting and reflecting on everything I experienced during the past six days.
One purpose of this trip was to serve another church by leading 30 of their people through a process which helps them discover their God-given personality type, motivations, and passion.
God's word says that, "we are fearfully and wonderfully made." In the past, I've primarily thought of that verse in connection with the way He created us physically. There are no two sets of fingerprints that are the same. Our DNA is absolutely unique and can be used to identify us. However, today I have been thinking about His words, "we are fearfully and wonderfully made" in a new light.
As we spent time with each of these 30 individuals, it was amazing to see that not one of them was like another. They were each totally unique, a one-of-a-kind, an original design. It was fascinating to see them come alive as they began to see that God had intentionally put them together in a specific way for a specific purpose; that they fit together and there was no need for them to try to be something or someone that are not.
It was truly humbling to realize that simply observing their outward appearance did not reveal what was on the inside. We've all heard it said, "you can't judge a book by it's cover." I believe that all too often, we judge others by their "cover," their outward appearance and/or behavior. When we do that we most likely will come up with the wrong conclusion and miss out on who they really are and what they have to offer!
We are all diamonds in the rough! A diamond is a precious gem, a valuable treasure hidden beneath a hard, crusty, rock-like surface, but with time, patience and some hard work that surface can be uncovered revealing a beautiful diamond. In much the same way, God has placed a valuable treasure within every person that will only be revealed as we take the time and work with Him to discover it.
You are His treasure and He finds His pleasure in you today.
